The article focuses on the experiences and memories of Assyrians, a minority group in Iraq by virtue of their Christian faith and language. Their memory solidifies the identity of the community, which is now projected as a refugee identity. Drawing on field research among the Assyrian community in Ealing and upon case-studies of immigrants, this article explores this shift of definition in the community in London and investigates how the community is defined by its own members.
